ABOUT THE MUSIC:
Princesses, genies, giant whales and epic ocean journeys! Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade is a glorious musical tale based on the epic ‘1001 Nights’ stories. This fourth album by Inventi Ensemble was created in partnership with Melbourne Symphony Orchestra for their MSO Live program in 2021. At Inventi, we love the rich storytelling that comes with music making and in this case we wanted to share some of the fascinating tales which inspired the music. You’ll hear our Inventi players narrating the stories before each movement.
Experience the enchanting tale of Scheherazade through Inventi Ensemble's captivating rendition of Rimsky-Korsakov's orchestral masterpiece. Through vivid instrumentation and dynamic storytelling, embark on a musical journey filled with exotic melodies and dramatic twists. Let the evocative sounds of strings and woodwinds transport you to the mythical world of Scheherazade and her cunning storytelling that saves her life. Inventi Ensemble's interpretation breathes new life into this timeless classic, ensuring an unforgettable listening experience.
Inventi arranger Glynn Davies has fearlessly taken on impossible requests from Inventi, including reducing large-scale orchestral works to quintet, without losing any of the integrity of the original. Scheherazade was no exception; the rich colours and expansive way Glynn has arranged the work allowed us to bring out the drama, absurdity, beauty and tragedy of these tales.
